Magnetic, easy-going, and delightfully articulate, Canadian pianist/conductor Ian Parker captivates audiences wherever he goes. As a pianist, he has appeared with top Canadian orchestras including the symphonies of Toronto, Quebec, Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Orchestre Métropolitain, and the Calgary Philharmonic. In the U.S., orchestral highlights include the San Francisco, Cincinnati, National, Santa Barbara, Richmond, and Honolulu symphonies as well as the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom, to name just a few. During the 2019/20 season, Mr. Parker will make his debuts with the Savannah and Bakersfield symphonies, and will return to the Pensacola and Okanagan symphonies, among others.
In addition to his work at the keyboard, Ian Parker is currently in his second season as music director and principal conductor of the VAM Symphony Orchestra at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Working with some of Canada’s most promising young orchestral players, Mr. Parker programs and conducts four concerts per season in Vancouver’s historic Orpheum Theatre. In July 2020 he will lead the orchestra in a 50th anniversary tour throughout China. He is also artistic director of the Resonate chamber music series at the Kay Meek Centre in North Vancouver.
An enthusiastic recitalist, Mr. Parker has performed across the United States, Europe, Israel, and throughout Canada on tours with Debut Atlantic, Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, and Piano Six. Recital highlights include the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, UCLA, the University of British Columbia, and collaborative performances at the Hawaii International Music Festival and the Morgan Library in New York City.
Mr. Parker’s recordings include a CD with the London Symphony conducted by Michael Francis featuring three piano concertos: Ravel Concerto in G, Stravinsky Capriccio, and Gershwin Concerto in F, released by ATMA Classique, and an all-fantasy solo CD including fantasies of Chopin, Schumann, and Beethoven on Azica Records. Additionally, CBC Records released a recording of three Mozart concertos for one piano (K. 467), two pianos (K. 365), and three pianos (K. 242) featuring Mr. Parker and his two cousins, Jon Kimura Parker and Jamie Parker, with the CBC Radio Orchestra and Mario Bernardi on the podium.
First Prize winner at the 2001 CBC National Radio Competition, Ian Parker has also won the Grand Prize at the Canadian National Music Festival, the Corpus Christie International Competition and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition. At The Juilliard School, he received the 2002 William Petschek Piano Debut Award and, on two occasions, was the winner of the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship Competition. Heard regularly on CBC Radio, he has also performed live on WQXR (hosted by Robert Sherman) in New York.
Born in Vancouver to a family of pianists, Mr. Parker began his piano studies at age three with his father, Edward Parker. He holds both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where he was a student of Yoheved Kaplinsky. While at Juilliard, he was awarded the Sylva Gelber Career Grant by the Canada Council for the Arts, presented annually to the “most talented Canadian artist.”
In 2007, she graduated from the High School Attached to Nanjing University of the Arts, and studied under professor YEHuifang, a famous Chinese pianist and educator. In 2010, she earned a master’s degree in piano from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional du Grand Chalon, France. The following year, she studied under the guidance of Ravel’s student Jean Louis Caillard. In 2015, she received the Piano Professional Performance diploma fromÉcole Normale de Musique de Paris, and the Professional Advancement Award from Conservatoire Claude Debussy in Paris. She then studied under Francoise THINAT, a well-known French pianist, educator, and chairman of the Orleans International Piano Competition. In 2017, as the first invited Chinese female pianist, Suxian staged a perfect cross-border combination of piano and fashion show in the prestigious Grand Palais in Paris, and was interviewed and reported by European and global media.
Dr. Jiao Sun enjoys an international performing career, featuring a broad range of styles from the prior Baroque era to the avant-garde. Born in Harbin China and studied piano at age 4, Sun has nationally won the first prize to be admitted at Beijing Central Conservatory of Music at age 9 followed by her solo debut with orchestra at age 11 and winning the prestigious Chinese “Chengxian Fu” memorial Scholarship. At the beginning of her teenager years, she was semifinalist at Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians and has advanced in Chopin International Piano Competition for Young Musicians. She has also advanced in British Hastings International Concerto Competition and Wideman International Concerto Competition. Sun has won top prizes at the Washington International Piano Competition, Memphis Repertoire Orchestra International Concerto Competition, Cincinnati Conservatory Concerto Competition, two Chautauqua Piano Competitions, Ohio “Tuesday” Scholarship Competition, Russian “A Step Towards Mastery” International Piano Competition, Chinese Golden Bell National Competition for Young Musicians among others. She has performed extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Sun has performed in major concert series including Chicago Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert, New York Rising Stars Piano Series, Cincinnati Zemlinsky Prize Concerts, Washington International Music Competition Concert among others. She has attended Bowdoin International Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, PianoFest in the Hamptons, and two Chautauqua Music Festivals. She has soloed with Memphis Repertory Orchestra, Cincinnati Conservatory Philharmonia Orchestra, and Saint Petersburg Academic Philharmonia Orchestra. She has soloed in Britain, Russia, and at many universities include University of Chicago, Hong Kong Caritas College of Careers, several in mainland China such as Remin’s University, China Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music. Her concert has been aired on Chicago WFMT 98.7 and Cincinnati WGUC 90.9 radios. She performed at major concert halls in China such as the Forbidden City Concert Hall and Beijing Zhong Shan Concert Hall. Sun has judged international competitions include the 2022 Ohio Piano Duo and Duet International Piano Competition and the 2023 Hong Kong Global Music Talent Contest.
Highlights of her 2023-2024 season, Sun has been invited to give solo recital as guest artist at University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She will judge Vivace French International Piano Competition and Orbifold Los Angeles Global Music Competition which she will also serve as the Ohio regional director. She has performed in Ohio and Kentucky concert series as a returning guest artist, soloed and taught masterclass at Ohio Denison University. She has been appointed as the editor-in-chief of Rochester (NY) based Chinese and English bilingual magazine “ALONG 同行” 2024 summer edition featuring worldwide professional living artists with diverse races, including women and colored artists. She has been appointed to perform in Bognor Regis, England and in many places in the U.S such as Maryland and Utah for the upcoming seasons.
An active chamber musician, Sun’s “SunRix Trio” has been acknowledged by Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition for their Outstanding Performance as one of the six piano trios worldwide advanced as quarterfinalist. They have won 1st place at the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Competition and 2nd prize at the Cincinnati Conservatory Chamber Music Competition. She has attended the Cincinnati Chamber Music Festival as a fellowship artist and has been selected as a fellow for the Toronto Chamber Music Festival. She has guest performed and lectured at numerous concerts such as at Cincinnati “La Salle” music series, two Eastman Honors recitals, Northern Kentucky University, and Ohio Walnut High School. She recently performed at Society of Composers Inc regional concerts with brass and percussion ensemble featuring American and Asian living composers. She has performed with world top musicians including Patricia Seymour Alexander, Vincent and Gabriel Dimartino, Hongsup Lee, Jason Smith among others. She has also collaborated with dancers, and with a wide range of various instruments and vocal styles such as percussion, strings, brass, woodwinds, classical voice, and musical theater.
Sun holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and an Artist Diploma with Soyeon Kate Lee at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she won the Graduate Excellence in Teaching Award as the head of graduate teaching assistants besides twice winning the Dorothy Stolzenbach Payne Scholarship; she has also earned a minor in piano pedagogy with Michelle Conda. Sun has gained a Master of Music degree in piano performance and literature with Douglas Humpherys and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance with Rebecca Penneys at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. Her other mentors include Hwaen Ch’uqi, Ann Schine, James Tocco, Bernadene Blaha, Amy I-Lin Cheng, members of Ariel and Ying quartets among others.
Dr. Sun has served as coordinator on site for the OhioMTA Piano Competition for Young Musicians, has presented twice at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP) and at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium. She has won 3rd prize for the poster session at the OhioMTA conference and has been published in the MTNA E-Journal as an invited reporter at the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum (GP3).
Began to serve as an adjunct piano faculty and collaborative artist-in-residence at Ohio University School of Music in 2021, Sun has taught lessons and group piano to music performance and non-music major students in addition to collaborate with a substantial number of students. The students Sun has accompanied have won two New Albany Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competitions, National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition, Ohio University Concerto Competitions. She also teaches at Athens Community Music School where she is a Master Teacher of Piano for pre-college students whose age and level ranges widely from young beginner to high school advanced level.
Establishing herself as one of today’s promising emerging artists, pianist Hanbo Ma has made appearances in solo recitals, as well as being featured with orchestras throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Her career began with her performance of Islamey by Balakirev at Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 17, after which she received recognitions by winning the San Jose International Piano Competition, the St. Andrews International Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, as well as others, and was selected as the only recipient of the Cobos Piano Prize given by Eastman School of Music in 2015.
Dr. Ma has given numerous concert tours such as an All-Liszt recital tour in North America and Europe sponsored by the Embassy of Hungary in Washington D.C., Liszt Memorial Museum in Budapest, Hungary, and Hungarian Cultural Center in London, England; a series of concerts and master classes on French and Russian Music at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, East Tennessee State University, Biola University, and Wuhan Conservatory in China. An active pianist, Dr. Ma not only performs solo recitals but also enjoys performing with chamber groups and contemporary composers. In 2013, she was invited to be one of the twelve scholars at Heartland Chamber Music Festival, where her chamber performance was live-streamed on Kansas Public Radio. In 2017, Dr. Ma collaborated with a string quintet from the University of Southern California to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 while conducting from the piano. Dr. Ma has premiered numerous works, including a world premiere of Ben Kwok’s Sounds From the Lung Fields, Dr. Chih-long Hu’s Formosa Caprices, and Elizabeth Baker’s Four Planes, which is a piece the composer dedicated to Dr. Ma. Dr. Ma’s most recent project is in preparation of recording and premiering composer Michael Colina’s Piano Concerto with The Florida Symphony.

Pianist Chia-Ying Chan, originally from Taiwan, brings passion, vibrancy, sensitivity and creativity to her interpretations of classical music. She is an active soloist and chamber pianist, who has given solo performances and recitals across Taiwan, America and Europe.
Chan has won top prizes in national and international competitions and her playing has been featured on radio stations, including The Grand FM 101 (Canada), WILL FM 90.9 (USA), and Radio Taiwan International AM 1557 (Taiwan). Her most recent notable appearances with orchestra include a performance with Sinfonia da Camera conducted by Ian Hobson, and given a 21st century Piano Commission Recital at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Her debut solo album on Centaur Record label was recently released, receiving praise from the Classical Music Sentinel: “…. [Chan is] a highly sensitive artist… a musician to watch and follow…..”.
As an active chamber and collaborative pianist, Chan performs nationally and internationally at conferences, festivals and many prestigious venues. She is currently a member of Amosa Duo with clarinetist Dr. Gary June. In addition, she has recently given recitals in piano four hands setting with pianist Dr. David Brickle.
Chan is currently on the faculty at Saginaw Valley State University. She has been invited to give masterclasses in the United States and Taiwan, and to provide a webinar series in China. In addition, she serves as vice-president at the World Piano Teacher Association USA-Illinois, and co-chair at Chambana International Music Competition. Active as a competition adjudicator, she served on the jury of the Sinfonia da Camera Concerto Competition (Youth Category), the National Federation of Music Clubs Festival (Bloomington District), and others. During the summer she serves on the faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. She received both an Artist Diploma and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Master of Music in Performance at Cleveland Institute of Music.

He serves as the artistic director and judge of multiple international piano competitions including the Vivace International Piano Competition, the Artcial International Piano Competition, and the Melbourne International Piano Competition and he has been awarded as the Steinway’s Top Piano Teacher.

As a teaching artist, he has been teaching piano and chamber music for over 8 years and his students have won several international competitions, got into top conservatories in the world, and successfully performed at prestigious concert halls.
Before earning a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School, he earned a Bachelor’s degree with Academic Honors from the New England Conservatory in Boston where he studied with Mr. Alexander Korsantia. He began his professional musical education at the Shanghai Conservatory with Professor Youzhe Lou and Professor Zhe Tang, where he received musical and academic awards and scholarships. At the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he regularly studied with the leading Chinese pianist Fou Ts’ong.

In 2017, he appeared as a soloist with the renowned National Philharmonic of Ukraine under Maestro Vitaliy Protasov. He was also invited to play concerts at the 2018/2019 Animato Association Concert Series in Paris, the 2016 Mendelssohn International Academy in Leipzig.
He has won over 20 national and international piano competitions. Some of his recent accomplishments include First Prize and the Best Rachmaninoff Prize in the 2020 Paderewski International Piano Competition in the USA, Fourth Prize in the Kerikeri International Piano Competition in New Zealand, Fourth Prize and Animato Association Special Prize in the Senior Group at the 2017 XI Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kyiv, Ukraine.
As a teaching artist, he has been teaching piano and chamber music for over 8 years and his students have won several international competitions, got into top conservatories in the world, and successfully performed at prestigious concert halls.
Before earning a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School, he earned a Bachelor’s degree with Academic Honors from the New England Conservatory in Boston where he studied with Mr. Alexander Korsantia. He began his professional musical education at the Shanghai Conservatory with Professor Youzhe Lou and Professor Zhe Tang, where he received musical and academic awards and scholarships. At the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he regularly studied with the leading Chinese pianist Fou Ts’ong.

Korean-born conductor and Steinway Artist Jason Bae will return to conduct Mälmo Operaorkester, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra of NorrlandsOperan and Västerås Sinfonietta in Sweden. Also, he will be conducting Domenico Cimarosa’s “Il Matrimonio Segreto” and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Stockholms Konstnärliga Högskola Opera.
Jason received his Master of Arts in Piano Performance with the highest distinction award, ‘DipRAM’ at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he was a student of Christopher Elton and Joanna MacGregor. At the age of twelve, he made his concerto debut with Auckland Symphony Orchestra and a year later, he was the youngest concerto soloist to perform with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Since then,
Jason has released his piano debut album “Marylebone” with the Austrian Gramophone in Vienna and he became an official Steinway Artist in 2016. During the pandemic years, Jason was the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Programme Conductor 2020-21 and was appointed as the youngest Artist Teacher of Piano Faculty at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Also, he founded the Afflatus Ensemble to provide concert platforms for young aspiring musicians to come and perform together from all around the world.
Jason was invited as the international jury at the Singapore International Piano Competition and Steinway Piano Competition in Vietnam.

Ms. Yang Cheng, serves as the Artist Director of The International Piano Professionals Association (IPPA) Canada Piano Conference and Music Festival, Co-Director of the IPPA Canada International Piano Competition, Chair of the Alberta International Young Artist Piano Association, and Founder of Ordersunshine Music and Art Studio.
With a wealth of experience encompassing both performance and pedagogy, Ms. Cheng holds the esteemed position of a registered teacher at Canada’s The Royal Conservatory of Music and China’s Central Conservatory of Music. As a highly qualified piano instructor, festival adjudicator, and concert pianist, she channels her passion and expertise towards teaching and volunteer work for non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting burgeoning young musicians from Alberta. Han Xiang David Xu, a young Steinway Artist, is an accomplished Chinese-Canadian concert pianist praised by industry leaders. Steinway & Sons CEO Ron Losby remarked that Xu’s performance of Chopin’s Barcarolle evoked the musical finesse of the legendary pianist Arthur Rubinstein, a testament to Xu’s profound command of the classical repertoire.
Xu’s concert career is both prolific and prestigious. Most recently, he captivated audiences with his performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 alongside the Lagom Philharmonic Orchestra in Vancouver. His passion for performance extends across borders, with frequent recital tours throughout China, including major cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Xiamen, and Guangzhou. In 2024, he made history as the first pianist in China to perform Liszt’s transcription of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Tianjin, a landmark achievement celebrated for its technical brilliance and artistic vision.
His exceptional recordings have garnered widespread recognition. His album Sonatas on Canvas won awards in three categories at the Global Music Awards: Classical Solo Piano, Album, and Emerging Artist. His latest album, Unattainable Illusion, released in 2023, offers a deep exploration of works by Ravel, Takemitsu,
and Chopin, showcasing his interpretive depth and versatility. Xu is also a prize winner in numerous international competitions, including the Rome International Piano Competition, the International Music Competition Paris Grand Prize Virtuoso, and the Canadian Music Competition.
Xu’s journey in music began in Vancouver, where he moved with his family at the age of 11. He studied with Canadian concert artist Ian Parker before attending the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Professor Rebecca Penneys. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Pascal Nemirovski, graduating with high honours.
Beyond his achievements as a concert artist, Xu maintains a deep interest in other art forms and disciplines, including martial arts, ballet, and painting. His unique approach to piano performance, informed by his martial arts practice and exploration of Taichi principles, has formed the basis of his academic research. He earned his Master of Music degree with a dissertation on Taichi Principles and Piano Performance Techniques and completed a Master of Science degree at the Royal College of Music. His thesis focused on the impact of fundamental martial arts training on young concert pianists.
In addition to his performance career, Xu is a dedicated educator and adjudicator, sharing his expertise in major international piano competitions such as the Canadian Steinway Virtual Competition and the Vivace International Piano Competition.
